*Young adults who feel like they should die. Solitary suicide among young adults.
South Korea ranks first in suicide, first in depression, and worst in every mental health indicator in the OECD. Additionally, South Korea ranks last in adolescent well-being and last in child life satisfaction.
More and more young people are dying in isolation, alone in their rooms. We want to explore the traces of the departed youth and find out 'what' they are isolated from and 'why' they are isolated together with the audience.
Through our performance, a one-time community of chance encounters, we hope to create a small crack in the solid social glass ceiling.*
We communicated with the audience about the similarities between the gun problem in the United States and the dysfunctional education system in South Korea to express how the huge ideology of "meritocracy" is currently entrenched in South Korea. Our performers then spoke about the connection between the current society and individuals as young people through their own artistic expressions, and together with the audience, we organized a performance for the "invisible something" that should not be ignored.
The performance is entirely co-created, based on a six-month research process, with interviews with experts in various fields, reclusive loners, and youth organization professionals.
