This era forces us to prove our worth. As children, parents, colleagues, or students, we are constantly pushed to fulfill endless roles, and ‘burnout’ is coming like a massive typhoon. Take a moment to pause.

Wherever you are, without any reason or excuse, it’s okay to do nothing at all. You are never just ‘someone in Seoul.’

Burnout is no longer just my story; it has become our story.

🎵 Seoul, Seoul! Beautiful streets of this city 🎵 once filled with romance, have now become like the blinding headlights of an “8-ton truck with broken brakes and steering.” Rushing forward at a maddening speed, unstoppable.

If pausing feels intimidating, if you’re afraid of being thrown off Seoul’s orbit when you stop, come to Dorimcheon, a small escape in the heart of the city.

Here, we invite you to join us in healing through the “free energy” of theater, as we share a joyful and playful moment of connection together.

This performance is a participatory theatrical experience designed to provide emotional healing for modern individuals exhausted by the relentless pace of urban life. Inspired by the concept of “burnout,” an intangible fear transformed into a tangible character, the performance invites the audience to escape from this overwhelming state through the playful medium of theater.

Set outdoors, the performance unfolds in a peaceful natural environment and is structured around three central themes—“perspective,” “speed,” and “deviation.” Participants are divided into three teams and engage in a series of activities that evoke familiar childhood games such as treasure hunts, tag, and squid games. These games are reimagined theatrically, allowing participants to “evacuate from burnout” alongside the performers.

Each team embarks on various missions, both large and small, using diverse physical senses to explore the thematic elements. Through the whimsical and fantastical role-play that theater provides, participants experience moments of creative “futile attempts,” where the boundaries between performers and audience blur into shared artistic expression.

Following the performance, participants join in open discussions with the audience, sharing existential reflections and collaboratively exploring ways to improve their lives. The event becomes a unique space where art and life converge, offering a refreshing and communal escape from the fast-paced realities of city living.

This is Spokendrama LAB YDBS. We are a creative space where we experiment with the fantasy of theatrical language on stage, constantly exploring how to express diverse languages or redefine the very concept of the stage.

For this performance, we chose Dorimcheon, an outdoor venue, because of its serene natural environment, which contrasts with the busyness of nearby Sindorim Station.

Since this is a participatory performance with the audience, structuring the activities within the performance was no easy task. The key was to strike a balance between the tension and the enjoyment the audience would experience.

The most rewarding part was realizing just how joyful and vibrant this community, born from a single chance encounter, turned out to be.
